The Drama Department of The Hyderabad Public School Begumpet organized a vibrant Open Mic Programme on 26th March 2026 in celebration of World Theatre Day. The event brought together students from Grades 6 to 12, providing them with a platform to explore and express their theatrical talents.
The programme commenced with an insightful address by faculty member Mr. Priyesh Pal, who quoted Willem Dafoe, emphasizing the enduring relevance of theatre in the age of Artificial Intelligence. His words highlighted how theatre continues to remain a powerful medium of human expression, creativity, and emotional connection despite rapid technological advancements.
Students enthusiastically participated by portraying their favourite characters from various literary and dramatic works. The performances reflected a deep understanding of characterization, voice modulation, and stage presence. Several students also presented compelling solo acts that addressed critical issues such as environmental concerns and evolving societal changes. These performances not only entertained but also conveyed meaningful messages, demonstrating the students’ awareness and sensitivity towards contemporary issues.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, teachers also took to the stage and delivered remarkable performances, showcasing some of the finest histrionics of the day. Their enthusiastic participation not only elevated the energy of the event but also inspired students, creating a wonderful sense of camaraderie and shared passion for theatre.
