Grade 6 and 7 Field Trip
Exploring Sustainable Innovation at NIRDPR
On 22 and 23 June 2026, our Grade 6 and 7 Cambridge learners stepped out of the classroom and into the world of real-world science and sustainability during an experiential field trip to the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) in Hyderabad.
As a premier center under the Union Ministry of Rural Development, NIRDPR provided our young learners with an invaluable, practical look into sustainable technologies, rural governance, and community-led innovations. The visit beautifully bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world application through highly interactive, hands-on activities.
The visit transitioned classroom concepts into real-world applications through a series of highly interactive, tactile activities designed to spark curiosity and environmental consciousness.
Key Learning Highlights
Our learners didn’t just observe, they fully immersed themselves in the following interactive learning experiences:
- Soil Health & Vermicomposting: Students got their hands dirty (literally!) by handling real earthworms. Instructors demonstrated how these small organisms accelerate decomposition to create nutrient-rich fertilizer, driving home the importance of sustainable agriculture.
- Natural Dyes & Indigenous Art: Blending chemistry with traditional art, the learners explored the traditional process of tie-and-dye. They discovered how vibrant, beautiful colors can be extracted from organic, plant-based sources instead of synthetic chemicals.
- Water Conservation: The cohort studied functioning models of rainwater harvesting and preservation. This session highlighted vital solutions for resource management, showing students practical ways to capture and store rainfall in both rural and urban areas.
- Upcycling & Waste Reduction: Witnessing the circular economy in action, students saw the mechanical and manual process of converting discarded cloth scraps into brand-new, recycled paper.
We extend a huge thank you to the team at NIRDPR Hyderabad for hosting our young innovators, inspiring them to think sustainably, and showing them how big ideas can transform communities. We are incredibly proud of our future eco-warriors!
