The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, takes great pride in its students’ performance at the Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter-School Debate Competition,Stage Il held on 27 August 2026.A competition instituted in memory of Mr. Frank Anthony, a pioneering advocate for Anglo-Indian education in India, and one that continues to draw sharp young minds from schools across the city. The event for both the Senior and Junior categories were held on 27th August, 2026, accorss two different schools of Hyderabad.

The Senior Category round was held at St. Pious X School, Alwal, Secunderabad, where the school was represented by Sharanya Varshney (Class XI) and Antara Lalwani (Class XII), who argued the motion “Carbon emission taxes should be made mandatory worldwide.” The duo delivered an outstanding performance to be adjudged the Runner-Up Team, with Sharanya Varshney also individually awarded Best Speaker Runner-Up. Their strong showing has earned them a place at Stage III of the competition, where they will carry the school’s colours forward.

The Junior Category round was held at St. Ann’s High School, Secunderabad, where six teams competed on the motion “Is Environmental Degradation driven more by Human Need or Human Greed?” Representing the school, Akarshna Sathish (Class X) spoke for the motion while Sattviki Das (Class IX) spoke against it, each bringing structured reasoning and conviction to a genuinely difficult question. Sattviki Das’s performance was adjudged First Runner-Up Speaker, a fitting reward for a confidently argued case.

Across both categories, the competition gave HPS Begumpet’s young orators valuable experience in extempore reasoning, audience engagement and grace under pressure. What stood out, beyond the results, was the composure with which all four students held their ground on genuinely difficult questions — climate policy and human responsibility are not easy topics to argue from either side, and each debater found a way to make their case with clarity and conviction. The school extends its heartfelt congratulations to Sharanya, Antara, Akarshna and Sattviki, and wishes Sharanya and Antara continued success as they advance to Stage III.
