The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, sent its Grade 8 Prefects on ‘Stretch’, a three-day outdoor leadership retreat held at the Golden Boulder Campus in Shahpur Village, Wanaparthy, from 8th to 10th August 2026. Conducted under the supervision of the Worldview team and a group of experienced facilitators, the programme brought together 72 student leaders — 61 Prefects from the CISCE curriculum and 11 from the Cambridge curriculum — for an experience built not around classrooms or textbooks, but around nature, uncertainty and physical challenge.

Over the three days, students took on hiking, rappelling, raft-building, bush craft and local sports, each activity engineered to draw out a different facet of leadership. Hiking pushed students to confront fear and build self-confidence over unfamiliar terrain; raft-building demanded teamwork and careful resource management as students worked together to construct something functional from limited materials; bush craft revived instincts for survival and crisis management, asking students to think on their feet in genuinely unpredictable conditions; and local sports gave the group a lighter register in which to simply bond as peers. Woven through all of this was a consistent ask — to stay proactive, take responsibility for difficult decisions, and manage time under pressure, exactly as real leadership demands.

The retreat also carried an ecological dimension, with students introduced to local wildlife such as snakes and lizards, and educated on the importance of conserving biodiversity and the ecosystems that sustain it — a reminder that leadership extends to stewardship of the natural world as much as to people.

Set against the outdoors rather than a lecture hall, ‘Stretch’ gave students a rare kind of classroom — one where resilience, self-belief and sound judgement had to be earned through direct experience rather than discussed in theory. By the end of the retreat, the school’s newest cohort of Prefects returned not only more confident in themselves, but better equipped to lead their peers with clarity, empathy and composure — both within the school and well beyond it.
