The Pre-Primary at The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet celebrated Reggio Emilia Day on 7th August 2026, bringing together curiosity, creativity, nature and joyful discovery. Rooted in the spirit of experiential and child-centred learning, the celebration provided our young learners with opportunities to explore ideas through their senses, imagination and active participation.

The day began with a delightful theatrical presentation of the much-loved story The Enormous Turnip, brought to life by our enthusiastic Pre-Primary teachers. Through expressive storytelling, colourful props and engaging performances, the children were drawn into the story while discovering the importance of teamwork, cooperation and perseverance. The excitement and wonder on their faces reflected the joy of learning through stories and shared experiences.

For PP1, the world beneath the soil became a fascinating space for exploration. Children engaged in a hands-on sensory activity with real underground vegetables such as onions, garlic, taro and potatoes. Touching, observing and examining these familiar yet intriguing vegetables encouraged them to ask questions, discover new vocabulary and develop an early understanding of the natural world.

Nature also inspired creativity as PP2 children transformed fallen leaves collected from around the school campus into imaginative “Leafy Men.” Through this simple yet meaningful activity, children explored texture, shape and form while developing their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity. More importantly, they discovered that nature itself can become a source of inspiration and artistic expression.

Learning continued through a growth sequencing activity, where children arranged picture cards to trace the journey of a turnip from seed to harvest. By observing, handling and sequencing the images, they developed early skills in logical thinking, visual literacy and understanding the stages of growth.

The children also revisited The Enormous Turnip through a creative colouring activity. As they coloured the characters and key events from the story, they strengthened their fine motor skills while recalling the sequence of events and expressing their individual interpretations through art.

Reggio Emilia Day beautifully reflected the belief that children learn best when they are encouraged to wonder, explore and make meaning from the world around them. Through stories, nature, sensory experiences, art and collaborative activities, our young learners experienced learning as something joyful, tangible and deeply connected to their everyday world.

The celebration was a testament to the thoughtful efforts of our teachers and the enthusiastic participation of our young learners.
