PRINCIPAL’S REPORT FOR THE SPORTS DAY – 2025-26
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT FOR THE ANNUAL SPORTS DAY – 2025
A very good afternoon to our esteemed Chief Guest, Hon’ble Members of the HPS Society and Board of Governors, dedicated teachers, proud parents, and dear students.
It gives me great pleasure to present the Principal’s Report on this joyous occasion of our Annual Sports Day — a celebration of athletic excellence, perseverance, teamwork, and unity.
This year has been marked by outstanding achievements, with our students excelling in academics as well as in sports at zonal, district, state and national levels. Their hard work and determination have brought immense pride to our institution.
Today’s celebration reflects the collective efforts of our sports department, teachers, and parents, who continue to nurture an environment where our learners can dream, strive and succeed — both on and off the field.
The school community extends a very special welcome to our Chief Guest, Dr. Mahender Kumar Rathod, IPS. An illustrious alumnus of The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, and a distinguished officer of the 2001 batch of the Indian Police Service, Dr. Rathod embodies the values of excellence, integrity, and service that this institution cherishes. From his early days as a boarder to his journey through medicine, civil services, and advanced police management, he stands before us as a shining example of where hard work, discipline, and vision can lead.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Dr. Rathod has had the unique distinction of serving in four different State Police forces—Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana—an experience that has given him a wide-ranging perspective on law enforcement across diverse regions and communities. As Superintendent of Police in the districts of Ramanathapuram (Ramnad) and Perambalur, and later as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Madurai and Chennai City Commissionerates, he played a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, reducing crime, and strengthening both administration and personnel welfare. His tenure has been marked by a firm yet humane approach, balancing enforcement with empathy and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Dr. Rathod’s expertise extends beyond field policing into specialised and sensitive domains. As SP, Economic Offences Wing in Andhra Pradesh, he led efforts to bring justice to victims of Ponzi schemes, multi-level marketing frauds, and other complex financial crimes, dealing with cases that demanded both legal rigour and a deep sense of responsibility towards vulnerable citizens. During the formation of Telangana State, he served as Commandant, State Armed Reserve (CPL), Hyderabad, overseeing the smooth redistribution of personnel at a critical juncture, ensuring continuity, discipline, and morale during a period of institutional transition.
His leadership journey has also included key positions in human rights and social justice. As Inspector General of Police, State Human Rights Commission, and IG, Social Justice & Human Rights, he played an important role in safeguarding the rights of victims, holding violators accountable, and reinforcing the principle that policing must always uphold the dignity and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution. He further served as Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, where he guided urban policing with a focus on safety, community confidence, and responsive administration.
Currently posted as Inspector General of Police, Headquarters, in the office of the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Rathod is entrusted with provisioning and logistics for the entire Tamil Nadu Police across the state—a role that demands strategic vision, meticulous planning, and the ability to support frontline policing at every level. From his early days as a student-leader and boarder at The Hyderabad Public School to his present position as a senior IPS officer, Dr. Mahender Kumar Rathod stands as an inspiring example of discipline, dedication, and ethical leadership. His presence as Chief Guest is a matter of great pride for the school community and a powerful reminder to students that excellence, service, and integrity can together shape a truly impactful life.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, as we celebrate the spirit of sports, discipline, and teamwork, it is fitting that we take inspiration from a distinguished officer whose life embodies these very values — Mrs. D. Kalpana Nayak, an officer of the 1998 batch of the Indian Police Service. A native of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, Mrs. Kalpana Nayak’s journey is a shining example of excellence, perseverance, and service to the nation.
A scholar in her own right, Mrs. Nayak holds a B.E. in Computer Science from BITS, Pilani, an M.Tech from IIT Madras, and an MBA from JNTU, Hyderabad. Her academic brilliance was matched only by her commitment to public service. She holds the rare distinction of serving across four State Police forces — Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana — leaving behind a legacy of efficiency, integrity, and compassion in every post she held.
In Punjab, she served with distinction as Superintendent of Police in Mohali, CM Security, and Ferozepur. In Tamil Nadu, she created history as the first Commandant of the first All-Women Battalion, leading her team to excel in commando operations, sports, and law enforcement. As SP of Nagapattinam, she played a crucial role in relief and rehabilitation during the Tsunami, and in maintaining law and order with firmness and empathy. Her leadership as Deputy Commissioner in Tirunelveli and Madurai saw remarkable reductions in crime and accident fatality rates.
Her pioneering work as Superintendent of Police, CID—Cyber Crime and Women Protection Cell in Andhra Pradesh, especially in handling sensitive NRI cases, earned her wide acclaim. She later contributed immensely as DIG (Administration) and Joint Director of the Telangana State Police Academy, where she trained nearly 800 Sub-Inspectors, strengthening the foundation of the force.
As Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), she played a key role during the reorganization of districts in Telangana, ensuring smooth transition and effective policing. She has also served in key positions in Tamil Nadu, including the Economic Offences Wing, Railway Police, and TNEB Vigilance Department. As Additional DGP, Crime against Women and Children, she revitalized the wing with renewed commitment to justice and safety. She also spearheaded large-scale recruitment drives at the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, selecting over 750 Sub-Inspectors and more than 3300 Constables.
Presently, Mrs. Kalpana Nayak serves as Additional DGP, Idol Wing CID, where she continues her service with dedication, striving to recover and restore India’s sacred heritage — our stolen idols and antiquities.
Her story is not just one of personal success but of unwavering diligence, empathy, and leadership. Coming from a family of distinguished achievers, with both her husband and father serving in the Indian Police Service and her mother as a respected academician, Mrs. Kalpana Nayak stands as an inspiration to every young person who dreams of serving the community and the nation.
On this Sports Day, as we honour excellence and teamwork, let us remember this remarkable officer who reminds us that discipline, determination, and a sense of purpose can help us surmount any challenge. Let her journey inspire our students to push boundaries, to serve with integrity, and to always strive for excellence — in the field, in the classroom, and in life.

CONCLUSION
As we bring this vibrant celebration to a close, let us remember the words of legendary athlete Jesse Owens, “The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself — that’s where the real victory is won.”
This era belongs to the dreamers, the strivers, and the conquerors—our students, whose victories have not merely filled our shelves with silverware, but have set ablaze a culture of achievement, resilience, and pride. Each thunderous cheer, each victorious leap, and each medal won tells the world: greatness lives here.
The constellation of medals and trophies amassed this year is not just a tribute to sporting might, but a living legacy—fuel for generations yet to come. To all who contributed—students, coaches, teachers, and families—today’s applause is yours. Today, the school is ablaze with the gold of courage, the silver of teamwork, and the bronze of perseverance—each medal a story, each trophy a monument to our unyielding quest for greatness. As we close this festival of courage and camaraderie, let us remember the timeless wisdom of Jesse Owens: “The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself — that’s where the real victory is won.”
Let this year stand as a testament to the world that The Hyderabad Public School forges champions, incubates legends and etches a brilliant legacy not only on the stones of The Shaheen but also in the history of the world.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS THIS SCHOOL AND ALL WHO HEREIN DWELL.
