The Champions Ride and Stride : The Annual Sporting Fiesta
On the 28th of November, the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet celebrated its 102nd Annual Sports Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, athletic spirit, and impressive displays of discipline and teamwork. Our alumnus, Dr. Mahendar Rathod, IPS, Inspector General of Police, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He attended this most important event in the school calendar along with his gracious lady, Ms D Kalpana, IPS. Other distinguished dignitaries who graced the event were the esteemed members of the Board of Governors and the HPS Society, The Principal, Dr. Skand Bali, The Vice principal, Ms Amritha Chandra Raju, Registrar, Col. Sarma and the heads and coordinators of all the wings of the school. Grade 5 prefects, Saaksh Sandilya and Ayanna Marshall presented the Honurable Chief Guest with saplings that remind us of our shared commitment to nurturing young minds and a greener future.
The celebrations began with the unfurling of the school flag, followed by the lighting of the meet flame, symbolizing purity, perseverance, and sportsmanship. The school Games Captains, P Sai Manohar and Srishti Allam lit the meet flame and set the tone for an exciting day of competition. The Oath- taking Ceremony was led by the School Head boy, Aneesh Chiuntalpati Varma pledging to compete with the values that stand at the heart of every sporting victory.
One of the highlights of the morning was the march past, performed with pride and precision by all four houses—Vijaynagar, Taxila, Nalanda, and Nagarjuna—led by the school’s student leaders and the Ceremonial girls troop. The Chief Guest received the salute. The horse riders and their mounts added a unique grandeur to the parade, reflecting the school’s strong equestrian tradition.
Drill Displays
The drill displays were interspersed with the track events. They were a vibrant display of rhythm, coordination, and creativity: Together they filled the afternoon with action, energy and enthusiasm.
Three hundred and thirty eight students of Class 5 presented the Lavender Vibes forming the year 2025 and energising the audience with a formation of a smiley. .
Over 600 students of Classes 3 and 4 presented Cascade of Colours, a delightful umbrella drill that transformed the field into a moving canvas.
Boys of Classes 6–8 showcased Crimson Breeze, a synchronised drill ending in striking concentric formations.
The International Curriculum students (IB & Cambridge) performed a graceful Japanese fan dance – Kaaze no Mi – The Dance of the Wind.
Girls of Classes 6–8 delivered Rising Stars, an energetic tribute to the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s recent World Cup victory.
Students of Classes 6–11 also presented an elegant Artistic Yoga Display themed Balance is Power, blending asanas with music and movement.
The staff vs Students Tug of war was a fierce competition between the staff and the students. The teachers won the Tug of War.
Athletics and Relays
The track events—from the sub-junior category to the senior 100-meter sprints—kept the audience cheering throughout. Athletes exhibited remarkable determination, speed, and competitive spirit. The 4×100m relay races, always a crowd favourite, highlighted teamwork and strategy at their finest. The 100 m Senior Girls and Senior Boys Track event decided the fastest girl and the fastest boy for the year 2025. They were Lipika Palam of the Vijayanagar house and Mohan Karthik of the Taxila house.
Equestrian Events
HPS Begumpet’s renowned riding squad delivered an exhilarating equestrian showcase, featuring salutes, flag runs, tent pegging, and show jumping. Riders demonstrated exceptional courage, control, and harmony with their horses—reflecting national-level talent nurtured at the school. This was one of the most exciting displays of the day.
Prize Distribution & Closing
The Principal, Dr. Skand Bali presented an insightful report beautifully capturing the sporting events and the spirit of the event. The Chief Guest’s address inspired students to strive for excellence with integrity and perseverance. Medals were awarded in multiple categories to honour the achievements of young athletes. The ceremony concluded with the solemn retreat, lowering of the flags, and the extinguishing of the meet flame.
With the final march out and musical salute by the school brass band, the Annual Sports Day 2025 came to a grand and memorable close—celebrating the essence of sportsmanship, teamwork, and the spirit of HPS Begumpet.
