10th Global Capacity-Building Workshop (GCBW)
on Global Citizenship Education (GCED)
22 to 29 August 2025
Seoul and Gangwon State, Republic of Korea.
Dr. Neeta Bisht was invited to attend the 10th Global Capacity-Building Workshop (GCBW) on Global Citizenship Education (GCED), organised by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), held from 22 to 29 August 2025 in Seoul and Gangwon State, Republic of Korea. She was invited as an alumnus, having earlier participated in the 9th GCBW, in recognition of her continued engagement with the programme and commitment to advancing the goals of GCED.
Themed “Advancing Democratic Capacity of Educators through GCED,” this year’s workshop featured lectures, interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and site visits designed to foster dialogue and collaboration among educators. Since its establishment in 2000 as a UNESCO Category 2 Centre, APCEIU has led global efforts to promote Education for International Understanding (EIU) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) across the Asia-Pacific region.
As part of the programme, she also attended the 10th International Conference on GCED (Icon GCED), which provided intensive insights into transformative pedagogies and practices that position GCED as a catalyst for reinforcing democracy. Following the workshop, a mentorship programme will support selected participants in implementing their action plans, with grants offered to facilitate local initiatives.
Over the course of eight days, teacher educators, teachers, policymakers, and curriculum developers from around the world engaged in discussions on democratic challenges and the role of GCED in addressing opportunities in the post-truth era. Participants collaborated in expert-led sessions, field visits, and dialogues aimed at developing GCED action plans to bring meaningful change within their education contexts.
